if it is not to late, this case can be disputed with the credit bureaus. i work for a credit repair company and this is something that they specialize in. When an account is sold to a collections agency, it is not longer verafiable. That credit card company only sold a piece of the debt to the collections agncey.That collections agency has no way to verify that the debt actually belongs to your mother. Therfore by the FCRA it has to be deleted.
