Credit And Banking In New Zealand

 


New Zealand's main credit bureau is Veda Advantage (previously known as BayCorp Advantage.) They have a separate site for information on ordering a copy of your Veda Advantage Credit File.

They were previously related to the BayCorp Collection Agency, but no longer.

Veda has a marketing division known as Inivio.

Centrix is another credit bureau, established in 2010.

A wholy owned subsidiary of Dun & Brandstreet is Credit Simple, which offers 1 - 1000 (most between 350 and 800) credit scores. They have parneners including The Warehouse, Co-op Bank, and Baywide, to offer financial products based on the individual consumer's credit history.

Information held by business about individual consumers is covered by the Privacy Act Of 1993, which is enforced by The Office Of The Privacy Commissioner.

Kiwi Income Property Trust - Issues prepaid cards that can only be used at their shopping centres.

Nova Medical Finance - New Zealand's only medical financing company.

NZ Post issues prepaid Visa cards, which they call the Prezzy Card (a single-use version) and the Loaded Card (a reloadable version.)

Pago - Person-to-person money transfers online or via phone text message.

PayMate - Another online Person-To-Person payment system.

Per Week - Hire purchase offers on consumer goods.

Shark Patrol - Free database for business credit reference information.

The Snapper is a prepaid, reloadable smart card which can be used on some buses (e.g. in Wellington), and also a few shops. It is issued by Infratil.

Tenancy Information New Zealand / TINZ is a credit bureau for landlords seeking information on prospective tennants.

Turner's Auctions - Offers financing on car purchases.

 

The central bank is the Reserve Bank Of New Zealand.

The Commission for Fnancial Capability is a government agency oriented to financial education.

The Office of the Banking Ombudsmen is a non-governmental organization which oversees banks.

The New Zealand Bankers' Association (NZBA), Co-op Money NZ, Retail Credit Association of New Zealand (RCANZ) and the Financial Services Federation are trade organisations.

Payments NZ sets standards and rules for payments between banks.
