The last statement I got from a collections agency was in April of 2000. So does taht mean that in 2005 i'll no longer owe the money and that they can no longer sue or make me pay it??
(I live in California now but the debt incurred when I lived in Illinois) I have only been in Cali for 2.5yrs.
I have heard nothing from any Collection agencies since I moved here. I did not make my new address public knowledge and only a few people(friends etc..) know where I am(none of whom would be called to find me-simply because well it's not like they are going to know who my friends are. But then again, if the places really wanted to find me they could--I have filed taxes, I have a cali license, i've used my debit card, I have a bank acct, my soc sec is the same number etc... So--if I am not contacted by them within the next couple years--I will no longer be able to be sued or have to pay--right??(Btw the acct has already been charged off) my last payment had to have been prior to March 2000.
I also dont fully understand the 7yr limit on the credit reports? Does that mean after the 7yrs it will no longer show the unpaid acctoungs. If I understand correct in March of 2007 i'll no longer have this info on my credit report. Is that correct, or if not--will it ever go away. I ask because-I would love to be able to pay these bills off but I owe right now approx 15,000 and that's not inclduing late fees, finance charges, interest etc... and I only make 1200 a month(working 2 jobs) (I'm going to school and plan to work towards a good career-but that will take a coupel years to finish. But, I need to know if my credit will ever be expunged or cleared(even without paying) because I do eventually need to find my very own apartment. I will be in Comm college until at least next year. So will it be possible at all to get an apartment any time before 2007 or do I haev to wait until then? Thanks--and if this made no sense, ask and i'll try to clarify
