First of all, no one can garnish ANYTHING until they first sue you and win a judgment (unless its a federal student loan). Even after they win a judgment, they then have to go for the writ of garnishment, so its NOT a 1-step process to garnish. The threat is illegal if they can't do it, if your state doesn't allow garnishment its an empty threat.

Your disposable income is your net (take home) pay. They may not be able to get the full 25% either depending on your net income.
