rome wasn't built in a day and neither will a clean credit report. Find and get proof of you date of last payment so you know when the SOL started. Chances are it is listed somehow on your credit report. Check the date of last activity on the cc accounts(not the collection account) or find the chargeoff date and subtract 180 days. Most importantly, keep quiet. If you dispute, send validation, or breathe too loudly they will wake up and harrass you. If your last payment was nov of 1999 then you have until nov of 2003 which is perfect because then you get to take part in the annual CRA cleanup which means around thanksgiving you dispute everything as not yours certified mail and the CRAs have 30 days to investigate or they must remove. This 30 days covers both thanksgiving vacation and christmas vacation and with the cc companies and CRAs being short staffed or just plain closed a large majority of tradelines get deleted. If you wait until the SOL is up and call the CA for removal the only think you will get is laughed in the face and harrassed.
