I need advice...

I had a business that went under in 1999. During the time that the business went under, my debt situation became rather confusing. Since I was consulting in various cities all over the country, I quickly lost track of what I owed and to whom.

Well, it appears as if some debt might have slipped through the cracks. The best I can tell, a summary judgement was issued back in 1999 for an unsecured loan with Fleet Bank in CT. Some lawyer now owns the loan and with fees, it comes to something near $5000.

I'm currently unemployed and staying in NJ while looking for work in that area. My mail, however, is being sent to NH. I was just informed that a message came in from the local courts indicating that the lawyer had filed to collect on a foreign debt.

Does this mean that this guy is getting ready to seize my assets? Since I'm unemployed, I obviously can't afford to pay this debt at this time and i don't want my car (which is fully paid for) or anything else taken.

What can I do?
