I had the same thing happen to me today. Call your State's Attorney's Office and be NICE and explain what happened. Make sure you tell them you are not trying to 'hide' from the debt, just want to know what it is all about. Besides, I bounced a whole slew of checks, (one number wrong on my checkbook balance) and boy, did that start a chain... Anyways, all the checks went through the State's Attorney's Office and I HAD to pay for them (which I was more than happy to do). Today, I get some stange letter from National Check Control, Check Fraud Division, saying they are going to recommend me for arrest, etc. BUT when I called the guy, he didn't even have a copy of the check!!! I called the State's Attorney's Office and they told me the SOL is three years (for Florida) and to wait to see if it came their office. They would notify me by mail and give me the chance to pay (if it is actually true!) Good Luck.
