If you receive a summons, you have been sued.

If you send a "settlement offer" you are admitting the debt and giving them the opportunity to get a judgment for the entire amount.

If you answer the summons with a defense, and notice of appearance, you will still have the opportunity to "settle" IF THEY CAN PROVE THEIR CLAIM!
