Fleet bank's now retired chairman, Terrence Murray, sometimes known as the "rear Admiral" by fellow money-changers, instructed his minions to glean judgements by all means possible as part of his farewell address.
Your amount puts you out of small claims - small scams - court. This is good. Sometimes these creeps sue, sometimes they don't. Write and tell them y ou are out of work, out of cash, no car, tell them you are dead or perhaps kidnapped by Albigensian Maniacs, or all of the above.
In all seriousness, should they sue you answer the suit line by line stating that you Lack Knowledge as regards their claims. Many times they move on to the next victim, in realization that pursuing you will cost them time and money.
And just because some process server/sheriff comes yelling around your door with some poop-sheet summons in no way implies that you are obligated to answer their knock. As one courthouse wag so blithely posited, "No service - No case". Duck the sheriff, mobsters do it all the time, so do hardened criminals, louts, wumpuscats, mugwumps and other unsavory types. And all of the foregoing chaps posess more character than any ten legions of collection agent/credit card sleazoids.

With kind thoughts of collectors,

I remain,
