Quoted directly from the HERTZ web site FAQ: "A: Can I use my Debit Card or Bank Card to reserve a Hertz car? Debit or bank cards are not accepted at the time of rental, however, they may be used as a form of payment when you return the vehicle." From National Car Rental: "Debit and check cards may only be used as a form of payment at the end of the rental (once the vehicle has been returned). National Car Rental will not accept debit cards at the start of a rental. A credit card or cash qualification is required." Enterprise: "Although you may use a debit card to pay for the final charges on the vehicle, you will still need a traditional credit card at the time of the rental. ****A major credit card that is not tied to a bank account is required to secure the transaction while the car is in the renter's possession." ****** And Avis: "Debit cards are not accepted as credit identification at the time of rental, but may be used for payment of charges at the conclusion of the rental.
