Asset is in my top 5 of the scummiest CAs. He is lying. They can delete if they want to. All they are offering now is a settlement which will destroy your credit even worse than it already is. Also, I 100% guarentee they will sell the remaining balance to another CA and you will have to go through this all over again. The only way to stop that is if you get a tax form which means you are paying even more in taxes on the remaining balance. Keep this is mind also- if the debt was charged off on 3/2001 like you said that means you last payment would be around 9/2000. Alabama has a 3 year sol on open ended accounts(credit cards) which means the statute will become time barred on 9/2003 which is 5 1/2 months away. The problem you are having now is you want want want now(a house) when you bad credit is not that old. People get into trouble when they want things now and end up screwing their credit up even worse. If I were you I would remain silent until october of this year and then you are totally protected. Make sure you find proof of your last payment. See your credit report with providian. When is the tradeline scheduled to come off your credit report or when is the date of last activity?
