Breifly I worked for International Paper for 19+ years. When they merged Champion International into I.P. they shut down 4&3/4 mills,at first, of which mine was one of them. We were given the option to go back to school to get a degree that would us be more qualified to get a better job. This is what I chose to do. This program is an Federal Emergency Grant and you are not allowed to do any kind of work on the side while recieving these benifits. I had alot of credit card debt and went through a credit counsling agency so that all creditors would recieve regular payments and see that I wanted to repay these debts.I will graduate from collage May 16,03 and hope to be gainfully employed then or soon after.
Here's my problem: I recieved a call from an individual named Brandon with Capitol Management that said Sherman Acquisitions had bought credit card debt from a bank,and began to pressure and belittle me for immediate payment.He touted what a great deal he had for me at nearly half of the balance, right now. I looked back thru my records and found no statements from this bank for over a year and called that bank. they were very helpful trying to find my account information. They said they had no record of me oweing them any money and said for me to file a credit dispute with the credit bureau. He kept trying to get me to say that I wasn't going to pay this , which I tried to reassure him I would after I got a job in May after I graduated and he said they would not wait till then. He insists that I borrow the money from someone or put it on a credit card.This I can't do,and he said he would refere it back to the company , recommending a lawsuit to put a lein on my mortage. I afraid that I will be forced into bankruptcy if they do this. I have recieved no mail from them, he claims to have sent letters, and I found out he put the wrong zip code on the letters 71702 instead of 71701. I asked him to send info to me and he refused, saying I didn't get back in touch with him.This guy is relentles in his demands,belittleing and threats. I live in Arkansas. Can anyone PLEASE help me or give me some advise on what course of action I need to take? If I'm forced into banruptcy it will elimanate many job opportunities for me in the area I live in because of government contracts.
