Ok, let me tell you one of 3 things that will happen. You pay it the entire bill and they reage the account to a paid collection and it sticks for another 7 years. Since a paid and unpaid collection are basically the same thing, both extremely damaging, you just screwed yourself. Let us say you settle on the bill. They either reage it, put a settlement flag on it, or both. With a profit/loss flag on an account you can forget about credit for a few years. Then they will either issue you a tax form in which you need to pay taxes on the rest of the bill or they will tell you your payment will settle the bill in full which is a bald faced lie. Then they will sell the remaining 50% to another CA, restart the SOL, and you will get another bad tradeline from an even scummier CA who will harrass you night and day. You only have one year left on your credit reports and then it must be deleted. Suck up the year and get on with your life. If they are calling you then send why chats SOL letter along with a cease and desist and be done with it.
