I have student loans from 1995 that went unpaid until recently> I learned that ASA (american student assistance) offers a rehab plan calledd new beginnings. I called ASA and asked about it and they said that I call the Collections agency and tell them i want to be on the rehab program for my student loans. Mr. ASA explained that: 1. After 10-12 months of payments my credit report will update to current status. 2. My yearly tax garnishment will fall off 3. I will become eilgable to qualify to go back to school on more loans if i wish. I called the CA and inquired about this. Playing dumb i asked about the program and he quoted me the same exact thing Mr. ASA said. So i signed up. I don't believe that ASA would be lying to me about this because they are not like a CA they are a loan ( govt subsidized?) grantor...And this rehab thing originated from them. Mr. ASA said that them and collections agencies are working hand in hand with this program.... any thoughts on why i shoiuld not believe ASA
