I posted below a couple of days ago. I feel as if I need more clarification than what was listed. Perhaps I need to be more specific in what I am asking.

I posted on the board many weeks ago about a collection agency that had contacted my husband about a debt that was over 3 years old. We are in Wisconsin so the SOL has not run out. The debt is for over $7000 and was not listed on credit reports that we have. My husband has had past credit issues which we have worked very hard to pay off and then this appears out of no where. He can't say for sure whether it is his or not since he had so many accounts and some were written off. He remembers nothing for this amount in particular.

After posting why chat gave me a letter to use asking the credit agency to prove the debt was his and then asking them to cease all collections activities. We sent it and it has been over the 30 days (2 weeks past now) and are wondering what to do next. What should be the next step we take and why haven't they gotten back to us by now? Do they legally have to respond in 30 days? Does this mean they could be preparing to sue us?

I'd appreciate help on this as this credit stuff is all new to me!
