Worried sick... LawGuy, Why, Lady: Help!

Help! I'm going crazy. I maxed out a dept. store card around December - presents for others and (embarrassingly) myself. At this time I was unemployed but was certain 99.9% that I would get a job that I had applied and interviewed for (they even made me come in and hang around the place to see if I liked it, and the employer's last words were, "we'll call you to discuss the days and times you can work".) Well, I didn't get the damn job. Now I can't pay the dept store card (as well as my other cc's). I talked to these people and tried to get them to take at least $20/month - no way they said. They need more to get me on their hardship program. And she even seemed suspicious as to why I charged so much (you don't want to know the amount) when I was unemployed. I have every intention of paying them back - as soon as I find a source of income. I've even applied to all the mystery shopper sites - I'm that desperate for income! Now I'm terrified they might sue me for fraud or something and I might go to jail. Help!
