There are many legal defenses possible, to name a few, the claim is time-barred (past SOL),
the amount claimed is incorrect,the added charges are not legal in your State,the debt is not valid (A DEFICIENCY CLAIM ON AN REPO NOT PROPERLY CARRIED OUT). The claimant has no "standing" (they have not prove they own the debt account).
