Summons..Question for Why Chat

Why chat, on one of the threads you said that if you are summoned, present a defense and they still have to prove the claim..My question is, if you receive a summons, and obviously the debt is yours, as most of them are ours..what kind of DEFENSE can you present????? Just appearing makes them have to present a proof of claim..What can be offered as a defense to the summons??? Thanks
