Due to a major illness and 4 major surgeries I was unable to work for over a year, I fell behind in my credit cards payment one year ago. I now work at temporary jobs when I am physically able to against my doctor's orders. I have managed to settled two credit cards, but MBNA refuses to settle, and have been jumping from lawyer to lawyer. Due to their adding the various lawyers fees, late fees etc., my balance has doubled to over $6,000. I was summoned in January, but did not respond. Today, I received a mail from the latest Law firm stating that they have applied to the court requesting payment of their fee of $500 from me, and also judgement by default. It is impossible for me to pay off the card. I have been working for about 3 months now, but cannot catch up on payment. I did not hire a lawyer because I cannot afford one. They are threatening seizure of my assets (which I don't have - no car, no house), and wage garnishment. Are they able to easily garnish my wages here in Florida whenever I work? Should I file for bankruptcy?
