You got it.. SCAMMED. The collection agency CANNOT remove anything but its OWN entries, they could not 'promise' to have Providian remove or modify ITS entries. I wouldn't pay Providian anything, it won't help your scores. They will list it as 'settled' or worse, 'paid charge-off' or 'paid collection'. IF they promise to amend their entry, for payment to 'paid as agreed' or 'paid', you may want to think about it, but I wouldn't hold my breath for Providian to do that. I would send them a copy of your 'paid in full' letter from the CA as proof that you did pay what was agreed to and you are NOT obligated to pay anything more. It all depends on how badly you want Providian to go away, but, as I said, even if you pay them the other $300, they probably won't make it a positive tradeline.
