AMEX is a snooty, elitest organization and they are conservative to the extreme, so its not surprising they jacked up your rate.

MBNA is eyeballs deep in the sub-prime market and getting slammed by lots of defaults for their own sleazy practices. They are being VERY nasty to protect their own butts .. IMO they're just doing major CYA becuase of how they shoveled out credit to anyone and everyone, pets included, over the last 10 years or so.
