Credit card debt of parent

My mother has run up huge credit card debts - not on frivalous items but mostly medication, food, necessities. She is 70 years old, is on fixed income, accute diabetic, had open heart surgery....you get the picture. Her supplementary insurance premium alone is over $200.00 a month and her meds are hardly covered at all...

I was told that I could be held responsible for her debt. Is this true? She has no appreciable assets and lives in assisted living. Any
